Scholarships vs. Grants
The difference between federal Grants like for example the Pell Grant and scholarships are the requirements the student has to meet. Here We will define scholarships and grants seperatly so that you will get the ideas whats the difference between both.
Money recieved through a grants is usually given out by a non profit organisation like for example the goverment. But the line beween grants and scholarships can be blurred because also corporations can give out grants.
Grants may be given out for various reasons like special intrests, minorities or for example victims of naturale disasters etc. Most frequently grants are given out by the goverment due to fiskal imbalnaces in their budget. Also a grant does not have to be specialy designed for college education but can also be awarded to startups or special projects of intrest that are non educational.
Scholarships on the other hand are designed for educational purposes. Most Scholarships will require students to meet tight requirements before and during they recieve the financial support. Most scholarships have requirments of certain GPA levels and or certain credit hours per week during the support time.
Overall scholarships and grants are very similar, a bigger difference lies within the financing model of student loans. Both grant and scholarship money is so called “free money” that is not expected to be payed back.
