Women have allways been a slight minority in facilities of higher education. Many femals do not finish their degree because they get married or pregnant. After their kids leave home many women decide to finish their degree or start all over again as a first time full time student. Many women hesitate to go back to school because they feel that all the financial aid is deignated for young kids coming from high school. This is not the case. Besides many scholarships for women ther are also many Grants available today to help women finance their education.

Of course you should allways try to apply for Grants that are for all genders. These major Grants are for example the very popular Federal Pell Grant that gives you free money for your first bachlors degree. This means that this grant is geard towards people who have never studied at college before. If you are a mother that stayed at home after high school to raise children or went directly to work to support your family then this is a grant that you should definitly apply to.

Besides the Pell Grant there are several other Grants that are available to everybody that you also should apply to. But like mentioned before there are also special grants that are available only to women.

Altrusa International Foundation
Nonprofit corporation established in 1962 by a volunteer service that is present internationally that contibutes to human well being through intensive localized community prgramms. The grant amount varies between 250$ and 1,000$ and is available for women only.

American Association of University Women (AAUW)
Several fellowships, grants and awards for women. On their website you can find information on AAUW Educational Foundation grants or fellowships and AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund support for sex discrimination lawsuits. Their grants amounts vary for each case.

Jeanette Rankin Foundation

The Jaenette Rankin Foundation offers money to women who are older thatn 35 years old and have a low median income. You have to show the fundation that a degree will improve your and your family’s life substatially. The ammount of money you can recieve is typically 2,000$.

Association for Women In Science Scholarships and Fellowships
The AWIS Educational Foundation offers predoctoral awards and college scholarships to females leaving high school to pursue a higher educational path. The money payed out usaually is around 1,000$ per semester. Another grant especially designed for women is the Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award which is targeted towards femal college sophomores and juniors studiyng geoscience or physics.

College Art Association Grant

Most Grants for women concentrate on a scientific field. There are of course also art related grants for women available. The College Art Association pays out a grant of 5,000 $ for females coming from areas that do not support artistic proffesion fields.

National Sculptur Society Grant

Offer 1,000$ for femal students that wish to study sculpturing or any related study field.

Application Process for Women

Remember to  apply to both the regular scholarships and grants designed for everyone and also the specially designed scholarships for women. Sucess in financing your studies lies in the quantity of scholarships and grants that you apply for. To get enough student grants for college you need to apply in several places. Do not get discouraged if you will be rejected in the first trys. Eventually you will find some programs that will support you and and will give you the necessary financing options.
